Growth hormone secretagogues are a group of synthetic peptides studied for their interaction with the growth hormone axis in laboratory and preclinical models. Three of the most frequently discussed in the research literature are Ipamorelin, CJC-1295 and Tesamorelin. This guide explains how they differ structurally and why researchers compare them. All products mentioned are supplied strictly for laboratory research use.
Two families of compounds
These peptides fall into two broad categories. Ipamorelin is a ghrelin-receptor agonist (a growth hormone secretagogue receptor ligand), whereas CJC-1295 and Tesamorelin are analogues of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Because they act on different receptors, researchers often study them separately or compare them in the same experimental design.
Ipamorelin
Ipamorelin is a pentapeptide that has been characterised in preclinical studies as a selective agonist of the ghrelin receptor. Research interest centres on its selectivity profile compared with earlier secretagogues. See our Ipamorelin 10mg listing for specifications.
CJC-1295 with and without DAC
CJC-1295 is a modified GHRH analogue. The "DAC" (drug affinity complex) version carries a chemical modification designed to bind serum albumin, which extends its half-life in experimental systems. The version without DAC, sometimes called modified GRF 1-29, is shorter-acting. Researchers choose between the two depending on the time course they wish to study. Both are available: CJC-1295 with DAC 10mg and CJC-1295 without DAC 5mg.
Tesamorelin
Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of GHRH containing a stabilising trans-3-hexenoic acid group at the N-terminus. It has been widely examined in published clinical and preclinical literature on the growth hormone axis. See Tesamorelin 10mg.
At a glance
- Ipamorelin: ghrelin-receptor agonist, pentapeptide.
- CJC-1295 (with DAC): GHRH analogue with extended half-life in vitro.
- CJC-1295 (without DAC): GHRH analogue with a shorter duration of action.
- Tesamorelin: stabilised GHRH analogue.
